Hiring an independent caregiver

A few things worth knowing before you reach out — whether you’re a family looking for in-home support, or a care centre covering a staffing gap.

Two ways to find someone

Browse profiles yourself in the directory, or post a job describing the role and let caregivers come to you — both are free.

1. Search by location and rate

Use the directory to filter by town and hourly rate, and see who’s available near you.

2. Check the profile carefully

Look at years of experience, qualifications, and work history. Every profile shown has been automatically verified as complete before publishing — but that’s a starting point, not a substitute for your own due diligence.

3. Ask for references

Speak to previous employers directly — whether that’s a family or another care centre. A caregiver with genuine experience should be comfortable providing references.

4. Meet in person before deciding

Always meet the caregiver — and, where relevant, have the person who’ll be in their care meet them too — before agreeing on anything.

5. Agree terms directly

Rate, hours, duties and any live-in or shift arrangements are between you and the caregiver. We recommend putting the agreement in writing, whatever the setting.

Hiring for a care centre?

The same directory and contact process work for centres covering a shift, a temporary gap, or building a bench of on-call staff — there’s no separate sign-up or fee for browsing and reaching out. Just be clear in your message about the role, hours, and setting, so the caregiver knows what they’re being offered.

Considering a residential care centre instead?

If in-home care isn’t the right fit, our sister directory, Nursing Homes Malaysia, lists over 1,000 licensed care centres across the country.
